Sourabh Thakare
Sourabh Thakare is a Materials Manager in the Material Processing Systems division of IPG Photonics Corporation, where he supports laser-based manufacturing systems through supply chain optimization, materials planning, and global sourcing strategy. In his role, he manages complex global supplier networks, oversees critical material flow for advanced system builds, and works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams, to ensure uninterrupted production. His responsibilities include building a strong supply chain, product cost optimization, inventory strategy, ERP-driven material planning, and aligning sourcing decisions with evolving engineering requirements to support scalable & reliable manufacturing operations.
He holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, with a specialization in laser-based manufacturing technologies, giving him a strong foundation in how design, materials, and process decisions impact production feasibility. This background enables him to bridge technical design intent with practical supply chain execution. Sourabh also earned an MBA with Business Honors from Monroe University, with a dual concentration in Supply Chain Management and Project Management.
In addition to his industry role, Sourabh recently delivered a lecture series at the University of Las Vegas, focused on early barriers young engineers face in manufacturing, addressing why many product designs fail to reach production due to cost limitations, sourcing constraints, manufacturability challenges, and supply chain readiness gaps. He has also authored and contributed to multiple technical research papers related to laser-based manufacturing and design-for-manufacturing principles, reflecting his continued interest in connecting academic research with real-world industrial application.
Sourabh is the founder of GlobalMfgInsights.com, a platform dedicated to simplifying manufacturing and supply chain concepts, while sharing industry trends with a touch of humor, and he is also a co-founder of the fashion and lifestyle brand Hemanita, where he supports business strategy, operations planning, and supply chain structuring.
As a Certified Manufacturing Engineer and Six Sigma Black Belt, Sourabh is passionate about building resilient, cost-effective, and execution-focused supply chains that enable innovation to move from concept to production.
Outside of work, he enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, staying active through sports, and is currently learning golf, embracing the patience and discipline the game demands; which helps him during supply chain fluctuations. He also enjoys fusion cooking, bringing different cuisines together, and experimenting with flavors.
