2015 New England Supply Chain Conference and Exhibition - Terence T. Burton Presentation

Accelerated Value Stream Mapping: Reducing Supply Chain Complexity Quickly
Terence. T. Burton, President/CEO, The Center for Excellence in Operations

Accelerated Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a more living and surgical approach to process diagnostics focused on a quick mining and improvement of the highest impact improvement opportunities. It combines VSM with other analytics and highly talented focus groups, to rapidly identify the segments of the end-to-end process containing the largest detractors to performance. The accelerated approach produces rapid breakthrough results by concentrating on the most influential process steps and factors of improvement. Because Accelerated Value Stream Mapping is a living iterative process, the entire end-to-end process is eventually viewed and improved based on Pareto thinking.

During this presentation, Terry will provide a basic understanding of Accelerated Value Stream Mapping and walk the audience through an example of reducing complexity in the supply chain quickly. Participants will learn how to:

     • Map and mine directly to the key sources of poor supply chain process performance
     • Combine VSM with other analytics to get at the true facts
     • Define and quantify the highest influential detractors of supply chain complexity and performance
     • Analyze deeper root causes in the critical supply chain process segments
     • Implement quick breakthrough improvements, and keep going

Adaptive Value Stream Mapping is one of several adaptive improvement methodologies outlined in Terry's book titled: Global Kata: Success Through the Lean Business System Reference ModelTM Also, Terry will be giving away a copy of this book during his presentation, so be sure to register for this very informative session, while there are still open seats!
