2015 New England Supply Chain Conference and Exhibition - Chris Caplice Presentation

Seeking the Holy Grail: Exploring the Connection between Level of Service and Transportation Rates
Chris Caplice, Ph.D., Executive Director, MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL)

The common business cliché is that you get what you pay for.  In other words, if you pay a higher price you should be able to receive a higher quality product or service in return.  Unfortunately, this linkage between quality, or Level of Service (LOS), and price, or transportation rates, has been elusive.  In fact, past research has found that there is a negative correlation between rates and LOS!

In this interactive talk, Chris will discuss the challenges involved in identifying and quantifying the impact of different levels of service has on transportation rates.  He will present results from research conducted with Chainalytics as well as MIT's Center of Transportation & Logistics (CTL), that show that the connection between transportation rates and LOS is there – but it is highly nuanced.
